A few nuggets about the live album gleaned the other night:

- will likely contain 2 new studio tracks

- the live tracks will see a few of the standards replaced in favor of some of the rarer tracks.

The band hopes to have it out before the CYO show.

This was the stuff recorded up in Erie last summer, right?

You guys posted the setlists, what are considered the 'rarer' tracks?

Yes, I too am curious. No 'listening party' for a release? So I guess we have no sponsor for this release. Armstrong was obnoxious enough. BUT, was better than no one!

Two shows were recorded, Kittanning and Erie. Rarer tracks would comprise stuff that's not been a standard in the set for years.

I don't know what's being included, but if I were guessing I'd say "King Cool", "Rocque Fantastique", "I Can't Really Miss You" and "How You Gonna Mend It?" would be considered rarer tracks since they don't get played all the time and they weren't on the '98 live album. I'd have to go back and look at the set lists, I can't remember exactly what was played but I think the songs I mentioned were.

This isn't to say all the standards will be replaced, but some will be left out in favor of these type of tracks.

I went back and searched... here's the setlist for Kittanning...

Set List (approximate order):

Soul Man
Agnes
Do You Compute?
That's The Way Love Oughta Be
I Can't Hear You
I Can't Really Miss You
How You Gonna Mend It?
King Cool
Rocque Fantastique
Sweet Merilee
Ellwood City
Little Black Dress
This Time It Must Be Love
Minnie The Moocher
Love Is Like A Rock

Ah! Leah! (w/ acoustic intro)
The Rapper

The blue songs are ones that would be considered rarer and/or didn't make the '98 live album.

I have a technical question (I know, big surprise!). Did you notice any 'special' efforts being put into the recording of either of those 2 shows? I thought Markovich board recorded every show? Why these 2 shows in particular? Cleveland on St. Patty's day in 2007 was without a doubt one of the best sound quality effort I have heard at any shows. Just curious as to what I may have missed at those 2 shows, I assume those were the two late June shows from last year, when I had my son down for vacation. Obviously, sound quality is a real issue with me.

I did notice that Rick Witkowski was on hand for the Kittanning show... he's the guy who co-produced "Live! At Nick's Fat City".

While I'm no expert on live recording, from my experience it seems there's a difference between a straight sound board recording and a proper live recording. For one, they usually mic the crowd in some manner for a proper live album. Just go listen to the raw soundboard B&B backstage... you really don't hear the crowd... and while it sounds cool and I'd love more of these soundboards, there are different levels on some of the instruments (remember the discussion about this) based on the way things were set up.

For a proper live album, I imagine they go to extra lengths to make sure everything is mic'd and recorded correctly so that when it comes time to assemble the album, everything will be recorded as intended to come up with a releasable album.

That must be Mr. Witkowski's expertise.

I've also been informed that Albritton plays on one of the new tracks. Paul on the other. Kevin plays drums on both.

No, I stole it off the House of Blues website.

Here's some tidbits on the live album...

- It'll be available at the CYO show on May 24th.

- The cover of The Black Keys' "Your Touch" features the original band in the studio including Albritton on bass.
